Associate Software Engineer

 

The Opportunity: 

We’re looking for an Associate Software Engineer to help us push the boundaries of what education can offer through the power of technology. This role focuses on our Learn Ultra Platform, which provides students with a simple and intuitive learning experience that they can access anytime and anywhere. It’s a solution that’s continuously evolving to meet users’ needs, and we’re looking for someone to join the team and get deeply involved in the existing product code base, improving the quality and enhancing the functionality of the product. 

 

As a member of our Product Development team, you’ll work in an agile environment delivering industry-leading SaaS products and web service platforms. You’ll be deeply involved in translating wireframes and sketches into working prototypes to refine user interface behaviors. 

 

As Associate Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing web applications and demonstrating expertise with Java, JavaScript, REST APIs, etc. You will be active on an agile team by participating in daily stand-ups, design sessions, code reviews, and sprint demos. You will embrace test development as an integral part of what you deliver as a software developer. You will also be responsible for delivering, maintaining, and troubleshooting cloud-based applications. In addition to this, you will participate in minimizing downtime and quickly responding to client issues.  

 

The Candidate: 

Required skills/qualifications:

  • Any experience designing, writing, and deploying scalable software 
  • Exposure to web application development and SQL databases 
  • Any experience with Java and JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular 
  • Exposure to OOD/OOP, data structure, and algorithm analysis 
  • Strong problem-solving skills in large, scalable, complicated systems 
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences 

 

Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • Experience with single-page applications, Node, jQuery, React, etc.
  • Experience with REST APIs, Spring framework, microservices, etc.
  • Experience with performance tuning against large, scalable, cloud-hosted services
  • Ability to pick up new technologies and frameworks

Blackboard has an office in one of the biggest cultural, economic, and educational centers in South India: Chennai. 

  • Located on OMR, the IT corridor of South Chennai 
  • Easy access to Velachery, Thiruvanmiyur Railway station and bus stop 
  • Very close to Tidel Park, Ascendas, and SRP Tools – Holiday Inn  
  • Office provides lunch Tuesday – Thursday and evening snacks Monday – Friday  
  • Office is situated behind Hotel Turyaa on the 5th floor of Rayala Techno Park
